Parents have a completely different vision of the role of a teacher: they do not even remember about the external evaluation

V. Spivakovsky: what do parents want from school?

Author: Vladimir Spivakovsky, President of the Grand Corporation.

In recent days, posts about teachers have hit Facebook like a hurricane. That they, they say, do not pass the external evaluation, that they are not as they should be.

My article has been reprinted by dozens of publications, over 40,000 views, and I decided to summarize more than 500 comments from everywhere. Here is a picture from the exhibition. This is what we, the parents, want from the teacher.

In order not to get tired, you can read not everything, but only this beginning and the very end. And have fun.

So, "the teacher is guilty" (!!!):

Teach the student to be competent in their profile and in general knowledge. Teach to accept other points of view and the ability to admit your mistakes. Love for children, humanity. Mental health. Creativity, creative potential. Create a joyful atmosphere, inspire self-confidence. More creativity! The main thing: to love children. The teacher must be able to compose a lesson. The teacher must take courses in public speaking, the beginnings of school psychology. Teachers must be able to play and engage children. Less punishment, more incentives for children. Teacher’s creativity. I think one of the main qualities is to love learning. Be a student’s sparring partner. Do not post in VK photos with alcohol and hookah. Do not gossip, do not hang labels, do not arrange moral terror. Man-lover !!!. 2. A professional in the field of his subject. 3. Psychologist. 4. Teacher. 5. Actor. 6. IT specialist (at least an elementary user) 7. Moderator. I am afraid that the very concept of "teacher" is outdated. There is only one quality: the ability to teach. You know how to teach – a teacher, you can’t – just a stranger uncle. The filter is narrow: it can teach or not. No lyrics. Kindness, interest in everyone, fanaticism in the subject, merging the subject with other sciences or just stories from life experience … Qualities, there are only two of them: logic and curiosity. Focus on the great-good-pure. It is necessary to begin with weakening of requirements to children It would be good for the teacher to focus on a strong segment of the class, rather than pulling a threesome out of the sophomore. Work on leaders and those who want to know – then the teacher and the class will go far. I think that to begin with, most of our teachers need to start respecting their students! To paraphrase Goethe: All teachers are good except the boring ones. The teacher must be able to distinguish the important from the secondary, to be able to repel higher officials. Philanthropy and the ability to be happy, to create a joyful atmosphere, to inspire self-confidence. Flexible mind, ability to see the little things, sociability, loyalty, zest for life. The rest will be applied if desired! The ability to present (transmit) information is available, necessarily with an example of application in life. Respect for the student. The teacher is the student’s guide on the shortest way to gain knowledge. Being on the same information wave with students. Be able to love your business (any hobby / art / work). Empathy and trust – respect for the child as an equal. Flexibility in finding solutions. Ability to captivate with ideas and values arising from the question "Why?" Erudition. We will include IT in erudition, and what is business, and management, and entrepreneurship, and philosophy, ontology, design methodologies. Taste. Ingenuity and reaction. Theatrical talent. A friend who helps the child try and seek a vocation. The teacher must be happy, self-sufficient, love his work. Have a well-developed communication skills, be able to inspire and guide. In my opinion, a good teacher – as a coach – he just needs to help the child find solutions and be there to share experiences and expertise. Love what you do. Constantly learn, learn new things: in the subject material and teaching methods. Feel like a free person. That with itself it was interesting. Be indifferent. Have an "inquisitive mind." In life and work to be guided by the principles he teaches. Humanity. First of all, the teacher must be smart. And if you did not pass the external evaluation, then where is the logic? He must first learn for himself. To be able to enjoy life, to love to learn, to be curious, to be able to be surprised, to respect children and to be always ready to change quickly. Have your own position, knowledge and be prepared for the fact that the teacher is not always right. You can learn a lot from children if you do not suppress their "I". And, perhaps, the ability to think positively and at the same time critically. Learn to think and give freedom in expressing yourself. Teachers need to be trained to behave properly in difficult situations. And the requirements for a teacher are simple: sociability, patience, knowledge of the subject, good diction (this is a problem). Individual approach, listening to everyone, catching looks, movements, interest or vice versa, ignoring, lack of interest … First of all, to see in the student a person, not a source of "indicators". Be able to see talent and "non-program" abilities. Demand with love, not "according to the letter of the program", especially given that these very letters are further and further away from real life. Encourage individuality, not kill it. To be flexible, to be modern (and in terms of technology – required), to be authoritative, not authoritarian. And friendly – a priori! Competence, kindness. Respect for children. Sense of humor. Ability to learn something new. Competent, capable of rapid self-education, friendly. These are the qualities of a teacher. Strict and kind at the same time. Love the good, remember the strict …… Adequate. Trust – respect for the child as an equal !!! To see a person in a child, to be able to help him learn something new, to be a good example for him. Be able to communicate with children and understand them. To be a good "seller" in a good sense, ie to be able to sell knowledge and interest in the subject. Be able to show the connection between the acquired knowledge and life: how to calculate the weight of a glued snowman, with which to roll it further, if it is very heavy, etc. Happy. Cheerful. Creative. The teacher must teach to fall in love. In the subject, in people, in yourself, in life! To be able to earn a decent salary with your knowledge, and not to be humiliated in front of your superiors, ministries and parents. Flexible to information, let go of the old and bring in the learning process! Tolerant, creative, having his own point of view, harmonious, open, free, financially secure, in love with the profession … Vocation is the key word! Not everyone can be a teacher. And now everyone can be our teacher. No bad children, no incompetent, no! Doc in his field of knowledge.

First: almost few people mentioned competencies, practical skills and even knowledge. 90% – only about the attitude to children. No Blended learning, inverted class, new technology, computerization, homeschooling, STEAM, 12 years, 3 steps, red pen, grades, profiling, 3d printers, robots, ..

This is a complete break with the template that the reforms offer. Parents have a completely different vision of the role of the teacher. They don’t even remember about the external evaluation!

Second: And who would like to pay for the banquet? Or should a teacher be forever? "Because there are too many demands for 5,000 hryvnias." And then we teach the teacher all our wishes and fantasies, and we will not give money …

Third… Very useful discussion. And this is just the beginning. Thanks to everyone who responded, because it is important to finally formulate the family order of the parents – what they want from school. Because if we do not formulate this "order" correctly, then in the end we will get deplorable results. And we will look for the culprits again.

And if we formulate it correctly, our children will be smart and happy.

We will continue our marketing.

In all countries that are implementing education reforms, the main motivator was the country’s ambitions

V. Spivakovsky: reform is not just an office event

Author: Vladimir Spivakovsky, President of the Grand Corporation.

Education reform, like any country moving forward, must be supported.

Another thing is that education reform is not just office equipment, but answers to 7 basic key questions.

What to teach? (we need radically updated content, which is easy to do, in all subjects, cases and ages). How to teach? (completely different technologies, 15-20 of them, which allow you to learn more school material in less time and with more depth and fun). It’s easy too. Who to teach? (another role of retrained teachers-tutors-navigators). Here is a way to solve the problem quickly and consistently. Where to teach? (offline, online and other spaces). Why teach? (Well, not only on ZNO). 7-10 basic parameters should be defined on which to be guided as one figure in points is not enough. How much does it all cost and who has to pay for it? (It’s not about 7% of GDP, but how and what they spend). It is necessary to involve all 7 stakeholders of the education system in solving this problem. It’s easy. And what end result do we want to get? (for graduates, for schools and for the country).

It is these answers that parents and students are waiting for … And for some reason they can’t wait. But it’s so simple.

2. Duration of training. In all countries it is considered – not how many years to study (in England, for example, in general from 3 years to 19), but how many school days a year. In China, Singapore (world leaders) – 230 days a year, in Finland 200, we have narrative topic ideas 180. So it’s not about years.

3. If we attract Finland, then the main thing that needs to be adopted there is the salary of teachers: 50,000 euros a year. And an extended contract every year. And no reports and meetings. And trust the students. Still there is a lack of desire for leadership. In general, the leaders in the world today are Singapore and Southeast Asia. There is also a lot of useful information (we have an advisor from Singapore, he advises us on world leadership).

4. School autonomy can only be welcomed. However, only 20% of principals (former teachers of geography, physics …) know how to make estimates for repairs and where to look for staff – new teachers, as well as to ensure financial independence.
